SERMONS

THE MILLENNIAL REIGN WHERE WILL IT TAKE PLACE?

By Min. Thomas J. Allen, Sunday Aug, 03 2014

Many ask, will the millennial reign be on earth or in heaven? Revelation 20:6 seems to indicate that we'll be priests with Christ, and we will reign with Him for a thousand years. Some will point out Isaiah 65:25 which speaks of the wolf and lamb feeding together. The passage in Isaiah and Revelation actually do not go together sequentially. When I first read about the millennium, I understood it to mean a thousand years of peace here on earth. But a problem occurred when I realized the sequence of events that happens when Jesus comes.

In 1 Thessalonians 4, we see the description of Jesus descending from the clouds and take up His followers.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

This is what is called the rapture being caught up. He then says,

John 14:2-3, "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

This is where He takes us to the mansions that He had prepared for us. Then we read in

Revelation 21:2, "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."

But in Revelation 20:4, it says that we are living and reigning with Him for the thousand years. So if New Jerusalem are where our mansions are, and it had not come down to earth, where are we going to be during the thousand years? I believe this means we are not going to be on the earth.

Another clue comes from Isaiah, where we get a picture of what the condition of the earth will be during the thousand years. The bible states in,

Isaiah 24:1, "Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof."

And then we read in,

Jeremiah 4:23, "I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light."

Of course, when you first read this, it sounds like it's right out from Genesis, but if you keep reading:

Jeremiah 4:24, "I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly."

Clearly, this means the mountains were there, but then they were gone. It continues,

Jeremiah 4:26, "I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord, and by his fierce anger."

Now you have cities that were broken down, so it is not the garden of Eden or a pre-creation. But what broke them down? The Bible says, "the presence of the Lord, and by his fierce anger." It goes on to say that there is no life on earth. Jeremiah also says that the slain of the Lord will cover the earth from one end to another and there's no one to lament, to mourn, or to bury them.

Jeremiah 25:33, "And the slain of the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground."

Also, in Isaiah 24:1 we learn, "Behold, the Lord maketh the earth empty."

So the earth is in a condition where nobody's alive, it's dark, and the cities are broken down. When could this be? Well, it's very simple. When the Lord comes down, the righteous dead are resurrected first, and then the righteous who are still alive are caught up with Him and remain with Him in heaven.

1 Thessalonians 4:17, "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."

Then the remaining wicked still living are destroyed by the brightness of His coming,

2 Thessalonians 2:8, "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming"

Also Revelation 20 says, the rest of the dead do not live until the thousand years are finished.

Revelation 20:5, "But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection."

Jesus also speaks of the second resurrection. It's a time when the wicked come forth from their graves at the end of the thousand years for their judgment, meaning there are two distinct resurrections. This means that there won't be anybody alive on earth during the thousand years. The earth is desolate and dark, and Satan is bound. And he has no one to tempt or manipulate. When I first studied this, the Holy Spirit spoke to me saying, that this is a lesson to Satan. God will tell Satan, I created the earth and all life in six days, I will give you one thousand years to do the same, and when I return, lets see your progress. But only God can create life, thus showing Satan that only God can do all, not a created being. So this means that we will be in heaven with Christ, until we descend with Him when the New Jerusalem descends to the earth which is the actual bride of Christ.

Revelation 21:2, "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."
Revelation 21:9-10, "And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God"

May God Bless you, your family, and keep you all safe from the coming storm.
You are all in my prayers daily.
